We were tasked by Merlin Entertainment Group to provide extra office space to support their expansion of the Merlin Making Magic department. We installed two buildings, the first installation was a 10.2m x 3.0m new portable cabin which was located to the front of their premises and the second building was a two bay modular building to be located on top of their current canteen building which was to the rear of our compound.
The 10.2m x 3.0m jackleg cabin was lifted into position with the use of a hi-ab crane. Once in position we removed the jacklegs as Merlin did not want them to be visible. This building was split into three rooms to be used as a front of house office.
The second part of the contract was the installation of a two bay new modular building measuring 7.2m x 6.0m. The building was designed to sit on top of Merlin’s existing modular building. A structural engineer was appointed to ensure that the existing structure was suitable to take the new first floor extension which with some minor additions in steel and bracing wires it was agreed we could proceed.
The building was craned in with the use of a large mobile crane provided by Steve Foster Crane Hire from Uttoxeter on a contract lift. Each section was lifted into position and our site operative team began the process of securing both bays to each other and also both bays to the ground floor. The external trims and the water-proofing of the roof were completed with the use of the mobile crane and a scissor lift, the team then moved inside to install the internal trims and also the vinyl flooring infill to the floor.
